Simulation Flight Model Developer (m/f/x)
At Grob Aircraft SE, we design and build some of the world's most advanced training and special-mission aircraft, "Made in Germany" and trusted by air forces, flight schools, and government operators worldwide. As part of Helsing, Europe's leading defense AI company, we are shaping the future of European air power.
Aircraft Training on the Edge
Our Ground Based Training (GBT) systems push the boundaries of modern pilot training, from full-feature Flight Simulation Training Devices to next-generation Mixed Reality FSTDs and fully integrated Learning Management platforms. This is where aerospace engineering meets cutting-edge simulation technology, and where you come in.
Your Role
As a Simulation Flight Model Developer, you bring our aircraft to life in the virtual world. You design the mathematical core that defines how our simulators feel, fly, and respond, especially in the most demanding flight regimes such as stall, post-stall, and aerobatic maneuvers. Your work directly shapes the realism and training quality experienced by pilots worldwide.
Your Responsibilities
Analyze flight test data and perform parameter estimation and model validation
Develop and refine aerodynamic models for fixed-wing aircraft, with focus on stall, post-stall, and aerobatic flight regimes
Execute simulations and perform verification and validation of flight dynamics models
Contribute to the design, implementation, and tuning of autopilot and control systems using MATLAB & Simulink
Develop models for aircraft systems such as propulsion, control surfaces, and sensors
Integrate and test flight models within flight simulation environments
Improve model accuracy based on comparison with real flight data and simulation results
Collaborate closely with software engineers and the wider simulation team
Your Profile
Degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field
Minimum 5 years of experience in flight dynamics and aerodynamic modeling
Proven experience in developing mathematical models of fixed-wing aircraft aerodynamics under extreme conditions such as stall, post-stall, and aerobatic flight
Minimum 5 years of experience in flight test data analysis and parameter estimation
Experience in autopilot or control system design using MATLAB & Simulink
Strong hands-on experience with MATLAB & Simulink
Solid understanding of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, and control theory
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication skills in English, German is a plus
Advantageous Qualifications
Experience with C++
Experience with flight simulator development or integration
Familiarity with Mixed Reality (MR), Augmented Reality (AR), or Virtual Reality (VR) simulation environments
